WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In just two months, the largest celebration of school choice in U.S.
history, National School Choice Week 2017, will officially begin.
The week kicks off on Sunday, January 22, and will feature more than
17,500 events planned across all 50 states. Events include everything
from student dance performances to citywide school fairs to large
rallies on state house steps – and more!
Participants include 13,500 schools, 2,100 homeschool groups, and 1,200
local chambers of commerce. In addition, coalitions of school choice
supporters are planning large-scale rallies and celebrations in more
than 25 cities across the country.
National School Choice Week shines a positive spotlight on effective
education options for children, including traditional public schools,
public charter schools, magnet schools, private schools, online
learning, and homeschooling. The week started in 2011 with 150 events
across the country and has grown exponentially in the years since.
“Every year more and more schools, organizations, and individuals are
jumping at the chance to shine a positive spotlight on school choice
during the last week of January,” said Andrew Campanella, president of
National School Choice Week. “We invite everyone to get involved and
have their voices heard.”
In addition to raising awareness about the benefits of school choice,
the week also serves as a starting point for parents who want to
research education options for their children. More people search Google
for the term “school choice” during National School Choice Week than at
any other time of year. In 2016, 153 million people learned about
National School Choice Week via 7,500 positive news stories.
National School Choice Week is a nonpartisan, nonpolitical public
awareness effort. For more information, visit http://news.schoolchoiceweek.com/
