WASHINGTON, DC – National School Choice Week is just around the corner, with exactly 100 days before the kick off of this nationwide celebration of educational opportunity. Already, nearly 11,000 events are being planned for National School Choice Week 2016, which will be held from Jan. 24 – 30, 2016.
National School Choice Week shines a positive spotlight on the education options selected by parents, students and teachers around the country. During the last week of January every year, families, schools and organizations hold unique events, meetings and activities representing all sectors of education, from traditional public schools, magnet schools, public charter schools, private schools, online learning academies and homeschooling.
These celebrations take many different forms, reflecting the varied communities that plan them. Many schools will host pep rallies, art contests, talent shows and open houses to showcase their students’ successes. Some organizations will dedicate the Week to studying and celebrating the positive effects of school choice in their state and providing information to local parents about their educational options. Thousands of families are expected to gather at their state capitols to show support for school choice in their states. And for many other families, the Week serves as an ideal time to learn more about the education options available to their children.
“National School Choice Week provides an opportunity to start tens of thousands of conversations across our country about the benefits of choice and opportunity in K-12 education,” said Andrew Campanella, president of National School Choice Week. “We encourage everyone to get involved, to celebrate, and to have their voices heard during the week.
As a nonpartisan, nonpolitical public awareness effort, National School Choice Week shines a positive spotlight on effective education options for students, families, and communities around the country.
